Dennis founded Szymkowiak & Associates in 2001 and is responsible for overall firm leadership and strategy. He has significant client experience with both large corporate and high net-worth individual clients. In the corporate arena, Dennis has successfully planned, designed and implemented responsible tax accounting and inventory method choices, capitalization structures, choice of entity decisions, federal and state tax credit studies, holding company structures for international and state tax minimization, and economic development and state incentive studies for many clients resulting in millions of dollars of tax reduction. For high net-worth clients, Dennis has similarly been involved in developing and implementing numerous tax and financial planning ideas, ranging from the straightforward, such as basic estate plan/asset ownership design, to the complex, such as integrated life insurance/annuity product arbitrage and family limited partnership structures. A 1981 summa cum laude graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a B.S. in Accounting, Dennis also participated in the Leadership Training program at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University in 1997. Prior to starting the firm, Dennis held a regional leadership position as a tax partner at a Big Four firm. An active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Tax and Personal Financial Planning divisions of the AICPA, Dennis is also a current board member of the BISON Fund and Buffalo Prep (treasurer); a past board member of the Advisory Council for Graduate Tax Program at SUNY at Buffalo; and former treasurer and board member of the Elmwood Franklin School. He has also taught in the Graduate Tax Program at SUNY Buffalo, and is a published author. Outside of work, Dennis is an active runner and cyclist, and enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife of 27 years, Linda, and their three sons. |
